Implicit Bias Test results
I'm actually super surprised that I didn't have an automatic association between male and female with science and liberal arts. That actually makes me super happy because I was brought up in a household that emphasized science for the men and arts for the women. I am a naturally gifted artist and musician which I've always felt extremely blessed for. I often dabbled in them in my down time. It never took much training, so I'd be able to pick up a pencil and draw portraits or listen to a song on the piano, YouTube it and then play it. The thing was, I didn't want to make a career out of those subjects because doing so would make my hobbies and passions feel like a chore. I liked the freedom to choose when I drew and when I played. With the sciences, I felt differently. I was never encouraged to participate in that, and I was didn't know if I'd ever be good at it. Truthfully, it was quite intimidating at first, and the fact that I felt so behind and lacking in that category drove me to try really hard in it. I'll never have the same capacity in math and science that I naturally do for the arts, but I'm okay with that. Choosing a career field in the sciences was my choice, and I did it because I like a challenge. It's important to be well rounded, so I think everyone should explore as many subjects as they can. We shouldn't place a higher level of importance on one category more than the other. It took me a long time to figure that out though. I started to understand that when I asked science was only for the boys. I was happily surprised when I found out that it wasn't. It was accessible to everyone. I think another experience that affected my test result is that I was best friends with a man who was an amazing writer, actor, and artist. He was great in the school plays, always had the highest grade in English classes, scored perfectly in reading/writing on the ACT, and painted amazingly. I was about 15 when I came to the realization that liberal arts weren't just for women. I've seen both sides and personally experienced both sides, so I think it gives me a more neutral vantage point.
This test was surprising to me. I've never voted before and never found politics particularly interesting. I genuinely thought that I'd show no preference in our current president compared to recent presidents like Donald Trump and Barrack Obama. I share mixed political views and remain moderate regardless, but I lack too much knowledge or interest to really contribute to any intellectual conversation about politics. I will say that as of this year, I'm starting to see how politics are involved in every aspect of our lives. Politics play into human rights, gas prices, military involvement, taxes, and pretty much everything else you could think of. I just didn't see the connection before. I honestly can't give a reason why I tested the way I did for this one. As I explore more about politics, maybe I'll be able to answer this question one day!
